Why is Anthony Bourdain famous?
Anthony Bourdain was best known for his cooking skills. He was an acclaimed chef, author, travel documentarian and television personality. He took his passion for cooking and culinary services higher than expected. He once said his hunger for cooking flared up while on a family vacation in France.
He was born on June 25, 1956 in New York City, to Pierre Bourdain (father) who was a classical music industry executive for Columbia Records (he died in 1987) and Gladys Bourdain (mother), editor in chief for the New York Times. Bourdain grew up in Leonia, New Jersey, and his only brother, Christopher, is a currency analyst and host on some television shows.
During his life, Tony had shown the world that cooking service was an interest that concerned the world and he did not believe that it was only for women, but also could be chosen by anyone as a career or even a hobby. . He attended the Culinary Institute of America, graduating in 1978, and spent many years at Brassier Les Halles, which folded in 2017 for financial reasons.
Writing and television career
As a writer, Anthony Bourdain basically wrote books about food, but to mix it up and create diversity, he only wrote two other books of fiction and historical fiction. He wrote ‘ Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Belly of the Kitchen’ in 2000, which became an immediate bestseller and his first ticket to world fame. He quickly followed up fame by hosting a TV show about food and the world called ‘A Cook’s Visit’ which was the first of its kind and one of the best shows he ever put on. It had 35 episodes which ran from 2002 to 2003.
In 2005 he started another show and became the host of Travel Chanel’s culinary adventure program Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations which ran from 2005 to 2012. He also hosted ‘The Taste’ alongside his travel diary programming for CNN; Anthony Bourdain: Unknown Pieces. He appeared as a guest judge on Bravo’s Top Chef Reality cooking contest, Maimi Ink episodes where he had his skull tattoo done.
Anthony wrote Average Cru: “Bloody Valentine to the food world and cooks. The book was published in 2010 and the following year he published a crime and fiction book and a graphic novel titled Get Jiro
Why did he commit suicide?
True, the rate at which people commit suicides has increased dramatically with the increase in the world’s population, but no one would have imagined that one of the world’s most famous chefs would end up committing suicide, regardless of his successes and those he had inspired.
June 8, 2018, was Black Friday for most Anthony Bourdain fans when it was discovered that he had committed suicide by hanging himself in his hotel room at the Chambard Hotel in Kaysersberg, France. He was discovered by his best friend, Eric Ripert. Until now, there were no concrete clues as to why the famous chef would want to end his life, no traces or notes to suggest or give an indication of what prompted him to commit suicide.
He is survived by his only daughter Ariane, 11, born to his second wife, Ottavia Busia, after his first marriage failed.
Upon his death, there were many comments about this world-renowned chef, and many described him as a happy and cheerful person, thus making it mysterious why he would kill himself.
Private life
Tony was married for twenty years to his first wife, Nancy Putkoski, before divorcing and marrying his second wife, Ottavia Busia, who was also divorced in 2016.
The legendary cook never subscribed to any religion even though he was raised by a Jewish mother and a Catholic father. Perhaps this explains why his public image was so marked by his addiction to certain substances such as heroin, cocaine as well as alcohol and cigarettes, although he tried to quit.
