José Castro was born on May 5, 1958. He is a Cuban professional baseball coach in Major League Baseball (MLB). Castro used to be an infielder. He was drafted in the 1977 June draft by Philadelphia.
He was a player for 14 years and played for the Phillies, Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals and Montreal Expos.
In 1990, Castro retired from playing and started his coaching career by being a hitting coach at Single-A Jamestown. Two years later, he became a minor league hitting coach in the Florida Marlins system.
In the 2008 season, Castro became the hitting coach for the Seattle Mariners, and later in 2014, he was the assurance coach of the Chicago Cubs. Castro has over 26 years of experience working as a minor league hitting coordinator or hitting coach.
Castro is married to Lisa. Out of their union, they have two children; Rachel and Matthew. The family lives in Miami.
