Jason Rabe was arrested at the Fort Lauderdale hotel lobby after he was suspected of hurling racist insults at an employee.

Following the incident, the employee was also arrested. But now, human rights attorney Ben Crump is challenging why the employee was detained in the first place, claiming he was protecting himself.

Jason Rabe is the 37-year-old guest whose reservation was canceled after he reportedly used racist insults on a Black hotel clerk.

Video footage shows a scuffle between an employee and a guest at a Fort Lauderdale Beach hotel, which resulted in the employee’s detention.

According to CBS Miami, the incident began when Best Western Hotel employee Raymond Rachal canceled a hotel visitor’s stay. The guest, Rabe, reportedly used racist insults.

So Rabe left the hotel, but later returned and marched straight for Rachal. He pushed past the security barrier and got right in the employee’s face with obvious aggression.

Rachal then hit Rabe in the face, resulting in a scuffle. A few moments later, another man entered and attempted to break up the fight. After that, the man dialed 911.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump stated in his tweet that Rachal “attempted to exercise his right to cancel a white hotel guest’s stay for spewing racist obscenities at him.”

Rachal is heard pleading for assistance during the 911 call. “He thrashed me. I was running right towards him. “I had no choice except to protect myself!” Rachal is heard stating in the phone tape.

The video shows cops from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department arriving at the hotel. Rachal is being pushed by an officer.

Jason Rabe Charges- Was he arrested?

Jason Rabe was charged with trespassing and issued a summons. He was arrested by officers for further investigation.

The arresting officer writes in the police report, “During my inquiry, Jason could not recollect the specific facts of the incident.”

According to the police record, Rachal failed to cooperate when told to back up. Rachal is seen being brought away in handcuffs shortly after in the footage.

The report continues, “Unable to pinpoint a major aggressor. Raymond was charged with resisting an officer with violence and disorderly behavior.”

Jason Rabe was arrested at Miami Hotel Florida by Fort Lauderdale police officers for trespassing and making a racial allegation to the hotel clerk.

“The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is aware of a video circulating social media relative to an arrest that occurred in January,” a representative for the department said Monday afternoon.

On January 19, 2022, near 1180 Seabreeze Boulevard, an event happened. The Office of Internal Affairs in Fort Lauderdale is investigating this event.”
