Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams (born in 1978) is a South African politician and Minister of Communications from Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa. She serves as the position of Telecommunications and Postal Services in the cabinet of Cyril Ramaphosa. Stella also worked as the Deputy Minister of Communication. As a politician, she works for the African National Congress (ANC).

She is also a member of so many committees like the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) and the Provincial Working Committee (PWC). She served the position of Deputy Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services from 31 March 2017 to 22 November 2018.  After that, she became the Minister of Communications, Telecommunications and Postal Services on 22 November 2018.

Minister of Communications breaks lockdown in South Africa

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has taken action against the country’s telecom minister for violating the 21-day lockdown imposed in the country due to Coronavirus. Indeed, South Africa’s telecommunications minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams was recently found to be having lunch with a former official amid lockdown.

Pictures of Abraham were overwhelmingly viral on social media, after which he was given a two-month special leave to break the rules of nationwide lockdown. With this, the President has ordered his one month salary to be deducted.

South Africa has been locked-in for 21 days since March 27 due to a rising outbreak of the Coronavirus. The government has given strict orders to all to stay in the houses.

In such a situation, the public did not like to have lunch by breaking the rules of the telecom minister and she started expressing her anger on the viral pictures of Stella Nadabeni Abraham on social media. In view of this situation, President Cyril Ramaphosa decided to sentence Abraham.

In this case, Ramaphosa spokesperson Khusela Diko said that the President clearly said that there is no one above the law of the country. In such a situation, if a minister is found to be in violation of the law, then the strictest action will be taken against him. At the same time, Stella Nadabeni-Abraham has apologized to everyone for her mistake through a video.

He said through this video that I apologize to the society at large for breaking the lockdown rules imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19. I regret this incident. However, the country’s largest opposition party Democratic Alliance has something else to say about this matter. The party believes that Abraham should be freed from his post and simultaneously file a criminal case against him.
