Richard Paul Ashcroft (born 11 September 1971) is an English musician, singer, and songwriter who is most known for his work as a songwriter. He was the main singer and sometimes guitarist of the alternative rock band The Verve from their inception in 1990 until their disbandment in 1999, and he continues to perform as a lead vocalist, accompanied by guitars and keyboards, in other projects. He went on to become a successful solo performer in his own right, releasing three top-three solo albums in the United Kingdom. The Verve reunited in 2007, but disbanded once again by the summer of 2009. Ashcroft then formed a new band, RPA & The United Nations of Sound, with whom he recorded a new album, which was released on July 19, 2010. Ashley Ashcroft has been dubbed “the greatest vocalist in the world” by Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
