Berkeley, California, is where Rebecca Romijn was born. Elizabeth Romijn, her mother, is a community college textbook author as well as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. Jaap Romijn, her father, creates specialized furniture.

While Rebecca’s mother has both Dutch and English ancestry, her father is from Barneveld in the Netherlands. While participating in a student exchange program in the Netherlands when she was a teenager, Elizabeth first met Jaap.

Henry Bernard Kuizenga, Rebecca’s maternal grandpa, served as a Presbyterian Church preacher and a professor at a seminary.
