NHL Goaltender Roberto Luongo’s Brother Leo Is Hired As A Coach By Panthers

Roberto Luongo brother Leo Luongo is a Goaltending coach for Florida Panthers. Leo started his coaching career with the AHL Team in 2016 after playing as a goaltender with the same team for multiple seasons.

One of the main reasons for him to continue his work with the Panthers could be based on the fact that his brother Roberto is playing with the team. Leo coached the Panthers NHL team in the 2020-2021 season.

Meanwhile, his brother Roberto got retired a year before, in 2019 so he could not get a chance to be his official coach. Nevertheless, he was the person who coached him since they were young and a key person behind his successful career.

After a season, Leo was assigned to the Panther’s Top-Minor team Charlotte Checkers, for AHL. He is currently coaching this team for the 2022-2023 season.

Roberto Luongo brother Leo Luongo is an experienced Goaltending coach with an experience of 14 years and counting. Leo started coaching various professional ice hockey teams since 2008.

Born on July 24, 1984, Leo spent his childhood playing hockey with his siblings. Although his older brother Roberto chose to be a professional player, he decided to become a coach.

Leo started his coaching journey with the junior ice hockey team Acadie-Bathurst Titan, from his home country Canada. He worked with them for almost five years before he got a chance to be a goaltending consultant for AHL Team Syracuse Crunch in 2013.

After that, Leo coached U15, U17, U20, and HC Luongo teams for different leagues based in Switzerland. At the same time, he served as a video coach for the Canadian Hockey national team.

Thirty-eight years old, Leo has the same passion as before for coaching and is employed with the Charlotte Checkers in 2022.

Roberto Luongo Career Grew After Brother Became A Coach

Although Leo is five years younger than his brother Leo, he brought a significant impact on Roberto’s career when he saw his passion as the goaltending coach.

Roberto reported that they used to play hockey together in their childhood and challenged each other often. Doing so, they understood each other well and knew about their playing style and weak points.

Leo is the best coach that Roberto knows he would ever have. Leo used to analyze each seasonal match of Roberto and they had long meetings discussing how to play in the upcoming season.

The Florida Panthers did a great decision back in 2016 to hire Leo in the same organization as his brother. Although Leo didn’t directly coach his brother, being in the same Organization, he got a chance to closely monitor Roberto’s gameplay which helped him to come up with some strong suggestions.

Besides coaching, Leo was his brother’s biggest believer. He knew that his brother had a match-winning factor, a reason why Roberto has won many of the professional hockey leagues’ finals.

Roberto And Leo Luongo Youngest Brother Fabio

Roberto Luongo Youngest brother Fabio Luongo also played Ice Hockey when he was young, but later chose a different feild. The name ‘Fabio’ is not famous among hockey fans since he chose to be a professional chef. 

Fabio Luongo started a restaurant called Ristorante La Bella Italiana based in Montreal, QC, Canada. Both elder brothers are fully supportive of him in his business as well. Leo and Roberto often visit his restaurant to spend some time with their brother and also for some publicity.

Besides their present relationship, Fabio shared some childhood memory in an Interview. He talked about the competitive environment among them and how they challenged each other in every sport which created an even stronger bond among them.
