Born on January 9, 1993 in Oakland, California, USA, Marcus Peters is the son of Michael Peters, a former football player and current coach of the McClymonds High School football team.
Marcus naturally followed in the footsteps of his father and started playing football at a young age. He attended McClymonds High School in Oakland, California, where he played football as a cornerback, wide receiver and place kicker. He led the football team to a 12-0 record and was named Oakland Athletic League MVP.
By the time he graduated from high school, Rivals.com felt that Peter should be a three-star recruit. He was also the 30th-best cornerback in his class.
In January 2011, he transferred to the University of Washington for his college football career. After getting a redshirt his freshman year, he started eight of 13 games the following year and completed 44 tackles, three interceptions and one touchdown. He started in 12 games in 2013 and in his junior year 2014, Marcus Peters was suspended from a game due to a tantrum.
