Kurt Van Veldhuizen Funeral And Obituary

On Tuesday, October 11, 2016, the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa, hosted the funeral service, which will be officiated by Rev. Dan Haggar and his nephew, Rev. Rob Horstman.

After the service, a luncheon was served, and at 2:15 pm, the deceased was laid to rest in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.

The family received guests at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa, on Monday from 6 to 8 pm.

The Hospice Beecin Foundation would be gratefully received as memorial donations on behalf of the family.

Who is Kurt Veldhuizen?

On September 14, 1936, John H. Van Veldhuizen was born near Hull, Iowa, the son of Henry and Dena (Brinkman) Van Veldhuizen.

On a farm outside Inwood, Iowa, he married Garlene Van Maanen on May 28, 1958. He began his career with Kooikers in Hull before moving to Ripon, California, to work for Wallenburg Construction.

They returned to Iowa, where he worked briefly as an ice cream truck driver. They started farming in Hudson, South Dakota, and ultimately moved closer to Doon and Alvord. John worked at Hope Haven in Rock Valley for eight years while farming.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, where he served as an Elder, taught Sunday school, and helped with the youth club.

In addition, he treasured the many Sunday dinners he spent with his family, and they enjoyed cruising to Alaska, Hawaii, Jamaica, and Panama.
