John Lynch is a renowned American football executive and former strong safety currently serving as the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL).

John Terrence Lynch Jr. was born on September 25, 1971, in Hinsdale, Illinois, United States. He was raised alongside a brother named Ryan Lynch. His father, whose name is also John Lynch, is a retired radio executive in San Diego, and a founder of the sports talk radio station XEPRS-AM.

His father, John Lynch was also the president and CEO of the Broadcast Company of the Americas. Regarding his education, John Lynch attended Torrey Pines High School in the Carmel Valley/Del Mar area of San Diego, California, where he played football, baseball and basketball.

John Lynch later proceeded to Stanford University where he played college football and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round of the 1993 NFL Draft. He is presently married to Linda Allred, the older sister of former NFL player John Allred. He is the father of Jake Lynch, Leah Rose Lynch, Lillian Lynch and Lindsay Lynch.

John Lynch’s son Jake Lynch currently plays football at Stanford. John Lynch had earned a Super Bowl ring with the Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVII. Lynch was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021. He was hired as general manager of the 49ers in 2017.
