Jane March Career

Jane March had become interested in the glamor world early in her life. At the age of 14, she became the winner of a local “Become a Model” contest. The renowned modeling agency, Storm Model Management, subsequently offered her a contract that she accepted. Some of her early works as a model were like a print model. She was featured on the cover of the magazine ‘ Just Seventeen’ in March 1990.

French filmmaker Jean-Jacques Annaud saw the photograph of March on the magazine and decided to cast her in his next project, the French-Chinese film ‘ The Lover.’ The film was based on Marguerite Duras’ semi-autobiographical novel of 1984 and revolves around the forbidden love story between a teenage French girl (March) and a wealthy Chinese man (Tony Leung Ka-Fai) in 1929 French Indochina. When it was released, the film gained mixed reviews. Roger Ebert of the ‘ Chicago Sun-Times ‘ wrote that while the film was able to get the physical details of the characters right, there was a clear lack of imagination.

According to a rumor circulating when the film was released, the sex scenes between the lead actors were real and not simulated. March later vehemently denied it and accused Annaud of not actively doing anything to dispel the “disgusting allegation.” Some sections of the media started calling her “Pinner’s sinner” after the London suburb where she was raised.

She shared screen space with Bruce Willis in the romance thriller ‘ Color of Night’ in 1994. March stated that while she didn’t like the film’s script, she couldn’t possibly miss the chance to make a Bruce Willis film. In 1998, she worked in the action adventure ‘ Tarzan and the Lost City’ with Casper Van Dien and Steven Waddington, portraying the female protagonist Jane Porter.

She made her small screen debut in the season one episode of’ Relic Hunter’ in 2000. She played Lidia’s role in the television movie’ Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula’ that year. In the 2010 supernatural adventure ‘ Clash of the Titans’, she portrayed the goddess Hestia. Her last cinematic role to date was in’ Film: The Movie,’ a comedy-drama directed by Raffaello Degruttola.
