Gary Portnoy (born June 1956) is an American musician and singer-songwriter from the state of New York. He is best known for co-writing and singing the theme song for the television show Cheers, “Where Everybody Knows Your Name,” and for co-writing and singing the Cheers theme song, “Where Everybody Knows Your Name.” He also co-wrote the theme song for the NBC family comedy Punky Brewster and the long-running television series Mr. Belvedere, both of which aired on the network.
