Harry Gulkin: Who is Sarah Polley’s biological father?

Sarah Polley’s biological father, Harry Gulkin,  was a Canadian filmmaker, arts director, and project manager.

He hailed from Montreal, Quebec, and was known for the film Lies My Father Told Me, which won a Golden Globe Award.

Gulkin passed away on July 23, 2018, at age 90.

Polley only got to know in 2007, that Michael Polley was not her biological father.

Her film Stories We Tell (2012) mirrors the relationship that existed between her biological parents.

Who Is Sarah Polley?

Sarah Polley is a filmmaker, political activist and former actress, known for the film Women Talking.

Born on January 8, 1979, in Ontario, Canada, Polley began acting as a child and became known for playing the role of Ramona Quimby in the TV series Ramona.

As far back as 1990, Sarah began to star in many TV series and films such as Road to Avonlea, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), Exotica (1994), The Sweet Hereafter (1997), Guinevere (1999), Go (1999), The Weight of Water (2000), No Such Thing (2001), My Life Without Me (2003), Dawn of the Dead (2004), Splice (2009), and Mr. Nobody (2009).

In 2006, Polley directed her first feature film Away from Her, which earned her the Canadian Screen Award for Best Director.

Polley went on to make other films such as Take This Waltz (2011), Stories We Tell (2012), and Women Talking (2022).

Women Talking had won Polley an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 95th Academy Awards. The film also earned a nomination for Best Picture.
