Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos made headlines after he was accused of killing four people when he drove a semitrailer into stopped traffic.

On Monday, the driver of the out-of-control semitrailer on Interstate 70 in Lakewood was sentenced to 110 years of prison.

Following the dissemination of the news, the truck driver made headlines in the public domain across the globe.

A GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos raised more than $120,000 to bond him out of jail.

Besides that, a separate Facebook fundraiser campaign exceeded $6,400 in donations to facilitate his family.

The 23-year-old truck driver was accused of causing a massive crash that killed four individuals on the 25th of April 2019.

The victim was a casino executive Stan Politano, 69; William Bailey, 67; Doyle Harrison, 61; Miguel Angel Lamas Arellano, 24.

After the tragedy, his friends and family engaged themselves in multiple fundraising campaigns to help with his defense.

The young truck driver was sentenced to 110 days for a fiery crash almost three years ago near Colorado Mills Mall.

The mandatory minimum sentence set forth under state law led District Court Judge Bruce Jones to impose the penalty.

His mother and supporters broke down in tears when they entered the courtroom after the tragedy.

According to the truck driver’s attorney, the truck driver lost his brakes and swerved into stopped traffic on Interstate 70.

Later, he was convicted with more than 20 charges, including four counts of vehicular homicide in October.

Besides that, he was found guilty of six counts of first-degree assault, four counts of careless driving causing death, and more.

Family members of the deceased addressed their pain in court. They said the tragedy was because of the driver’s recklessness.

With a heavy heart and tears, the truck driver begged for forgiveness in front of everyone in the court.

Speaking to CNN, Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos’s brother Daniel Aguilera told his brother’s brake failed during the incident.

Daniel also serves as a truck driver, just like his brother. His family’s update as of now must be extremely distressing.
