Eugene Quaynor was studying for his Masters Degree as well as playing for the Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team at the time of his death.
Quaynor was killed in a crash near 71st and Yale on Wednesday night (Sept. 28).
Born in 1999 to parents Daniel Quaynor and Hasila Haruna, Eugene was educated at the Oyoko Methodist SHS where he led his team to win the ‘interco’ games.
He continued his education at the University of Ghana and while there, he helped the school finish third at the GUSA games.
Quaynor later gained a scholarship to further his studies in the United States at Oral Roberts University to study Sports Management.
Quaynor was at a stop light just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28 when an SUV rear-ended his car, pushing it through the intersection, the Tulsa Police Department said in a news release.
His car spun around, hit a wall and caught fire, police said.
People nearby tried to help him get out, breaking the car’s windows with rocks. However, their rescue efforts proved futile as the flames quickly engulfed the vehicle.
Officers reported arriving to find Quaynor dead and the SUV driver attempting to flee. Police said the SUV driver appeared to be “severely intoxicated.”
Oral Roberts University helped police contact the family of Quaynor, a 23-year-old from Accra, Ghana.
