Talking about his illness, August Alsina has a generic liver disease, which is autoimmune and runs in his family. His illness has led to several incidents including, a collapse on stage in 2014 and being hospitalized in 2019.

Meet August Alsina’s Family And Sister

He was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, and graduated middle school in New Orleans. August’s mother moved him to Houston, Texas, for a fresh start as his father and stepfather battled crack cocaine addiction. He was inspired to sing by Lauryn Hill in Sister Act 2, and he does not come from a musically inclined family.

On August 31, 2010, Alsina’s older brother, Melvin La’Branch III, was shot and killed. After the incident, he got more committed to his music and moved to Atlanta in 2011.

August lost his sister, Chandra, in a battle with cancer. After his sister passed away, Alsina took the responsibility of raising her kids, Amaiya, Chaylin, and Kayden, as his own daughters.
