Dateline has been updating us with Mollie Olgin and her girlfriend Kistene Chapa’s shooting case. The episode titled “The Overlook” revisits the 2012 execution-style shooting of Mollie Olgin and her girlfriend, Marie Kristene “Kris” Chapa.
The incident takes us back to June 22, 2012, where two young girls were sexually assaulted and shot in the head at Violet Andrews Park in Portland.
Their bodies were discovered the next day, and Mollie Olgin was pronounced dead at the spot while Kristene Chapa was lying unconscious in a critical condition.
After the severe intensive care and rehabilitation, she has finally regained mobility and assisted police in creating a composite sketch of her and Olgin’s attacker.
According to the video uploaded by Dateline, the couple was dating secretly without the knowledge of their parents. She was afraid that her family will disown her after finding the truth as her father was a true catholic.
However, the incident has changed the life of Kristene and the way of her life.
An Update On Mollie Olgin and Kristene Chapa Sexual Assault
According to Callers who keep on updating about Mollie Olgin and Kristene Chapa Sexual Assault, David Strickland was arrested in 2016 for Olgin’s murder. He was imprisoned for life without the possibility of parole.
However, in 2018, a hair found on Olgin’s body was tested. And the DNA matched with Dylan Spellman who was an early suspect in the crime.
As a result, in 2019, one of Strickland’s attorneys claimed that the crime was committed by a man from Nevada whose DNA was discovered at the scene.
Moreover, they also filed an appeal to have Strickland’s conviction overturned based on new evidence. But the appeal was denied in January 2020 by releasing the statement that “the trial court’s decision is upheld by the court.”
And according to Caller, recently Strickland’s lawyers have requested another hearing and have filed an order to the court. They have requested access to physical evidence, forensic data, jail phone calls, and recorded interviews” of the initial suspect.
