Guillermo Behrens Tello is well-known for being the ex-husband of Carolina Herrera. Diana Vreeland, a close friend of Carolina Herrera and the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue in 1981, suggested that Carolina start her own clothing brand. This advice encouraged her, so she went on to make samples in Caracas and made her debut at Manhattan’s exclusive Metropolitan Club.

After receiving positive reviews for the collection, Martha’s, a well-known store on Park Avenue, consented to display her creations in their prominent windows. She was inspired by this early achievement and went back to Caracas to raise the money required for a formal launch.

Future supermodel Iman was a participant in her 1980 debut runway show. Currently, Carolina Herrera presents her ready-to-wear line at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York twice a year.

The Carolina Herrera firm has had its headquarters in New York City since 1980. With a focus on the flawlessly crafted sleeves of her clothing, prestigious journals like Women’s Wear Daily and Tatler gave the brand substantial exposure in 1981.

Throughout her career, Carolina has had the honor of working with a number of illustrious clients, including Renée Zellweger, Princess Diana, Duchess of Cadaval, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Diana, Duchess of Cadaval hired Carolina to create the gown for her wedding to Prince Charles-Philippe of Orléans, Duke of Anjou.
