Buju Banton is a Jamaican reggae dancehall recording artist who is best known as one of the most significant and well-regarded artists in Jamaican music. 

Buju Banton was born Mark Anthony Myrie on July 15, 1973, in Kingston, Jamaica. His parents are Merlene and Benjamin Myrie. His mother was a street vendor, while his father worked as a laborer at a tile factory. He is the youngest of 15 siblings.

Buju Banton started his music career in 1986 where he was introduced to producer Robert Ffrench and later produced his first single ‘The Rule’ in 1987. He has since collaborated with many international artists, including those in the hip hop, Latin, and punk rock genres, as well as the sons of Bob Marley.

In 2011, Buju Banton was convicted on the aforementioned criminal charge and was imprisoned in the U.S. until December 2018, whereupon he was deported[8] home to Jamaica.
