Bennie Thompson is a football player with the same name (American football). Bennie Gordon Thompson (born January 28, 1948) is the United States Representative representing Mississippi’s 2nd congressional district, where he has served since 1993. Since 2011, he has also served as the ranking member of the Committee on Homeland Security. He belongs to the Democratic Party. The district encompasses the bulk of Jackson and is the state’s only majority-black district. The Mississippi River runs through the area, which is about 275 miles (443 kilometres) long and 180 miles (290 kilometres) broad. The Mississippi Delta makes up the bulk of the 2nd Congressional District. He is the first African American and the first Democrat to head the House Homeland Security Committee.
