Ashley Cain Gribble Timothy Leduc Partnership
Ashley Cain Gribble and Timothy Leduc’s partnership in skating is well-known for their unique style and belief. The partner together won the title of US champions two-time, in 2019 and in 2022.
In addition to that, the pair was a silver medalist at the 2018 Four Continents and a bronze medalist at the 2016 CS Golden Spin of Zagreb.
Prior to competing in doubles, she competed in singles, winning the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medal and the 2012 U.S. Junior silver medal.
The pair appeared on the podcast My New Favorite Olympian, where they discussed the foundation of their partnership.
Gender norms are prevalent in pairs skating and ice dance, where two skaters, one male, one female, tell a story through their performances.
Those stories frequently involve a strong man swooping in to save a woman, or a man and a woman falling in love. That, however, is not who Cain-Gribble and LeDuc are. As a result, they desired to do something more in line with their personalities.
LeDuc came out as gay when he was 18 years old. He revealed ten years later that he identified himself as non-binary. The first announcement caused an uproar at home and in his skating career.
LeDuc’s potential skating partner backed out of their partnership because she thought his homosexuality would be a liability.
LeDuc had finally found a partner who shared his vision in Gribble. She also had no desire to play the role of a fragile girl. As a result, they formed a perfect team that developed their own style while rejecting all traditional myths.
“When Timothy and I teamed up, we never wanted to be considered the traditional team,” Cain-Gribble explained.
