Arun Nayar was born in Burmantofts, Leeds, England, in December 1964. He was reared by his divorced parents, Gunnar Nayar and Vinod Nayar (an author, lecturer, motivational speaker, retired army officer, and strategist).

He also has a sibling named Nikhil Nayar. Nayar holds dual British-Indian citizenship and is of Indian-German ancestry.

When he was 16, he enrolled at Millfield Boarding School in England. He went on to Oxford University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He went on to Imperial College, where he got a Master’s degree in Physics.
