Andre Jamal Drummond was born on August 10, 1993, in Mount Vernon, New York, United States. He was born to Jamaican parents and his mother is Christine Cameron. He was raised alongside a sister. He moved to Middletown, Connecticut when he was a 7-year-old alongside his mother and sister.

Andre Drummond went to Woodrow Wilson Middle School. He began high school at Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, Connecticut and later transferred to St. Thomas More. At St. Thomas More in Oakdale, Connecticut. He was a member of the 2014 U.S. national team that won a gold medal in the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship.
